Nurturing School Programme
Holy Cross is working towards becoming a National Nurturing School.
Nurture gets to the heart of children and young people's challenges, and supports them to build connections and resilience. It's a highly effective way to improve attendance and behaviour in your school, leading to better attainment and reduced exclusions.
The National Nurturing Schools Programme helps our staff to develop and embed a nurturing culture throughout our school, enhancing teaching and learning, and promoting better outcomes for the whole school community. It focuses on pupils’ emotional needs and development alongside their academic learning and can improve attendance and behaviour.
The programme is highly rated by school leaders and teachers, with an outstanding Net Promoter Score of over 70, meaning almost all participants strongly recommend the sessions.
So far staff have received CPD-accredited training and one-to-one help, along with two years of subscription to the Boxall Profile® Online, and will soon be submitting an assessment for the prestigious National Nurturing Schools Award.
This whole-school programme gives us the proven tools, training and support we need to implement nurture at Holy Cross, improving attendance and helping our children thrive.
The Six Principles of Nurture
The National Nurturing Schools Programme is based on the Six Principles of Nurture that have successfully underpinned nurturing approaches for over 50 years.
Today there are hundreds of National Nurturing Schools around the UK. Teachers are trained to focus on the social and emotional needs and development, as well as the academic learning of all pupils, and to embed the Six Principles of Nurture throughout the policies and practices of a school.
